Many heirloom beans have more than one name attached to them, and sometimes the older the bean, the more names it has! Sorting through them all, and figuring out which name goes with what bean, can be quite a challenge. For example, one of my favorite rare heirloom pole beans is a beautiful black and white speckled dry bean. It is known alternatively as Flagg, Chester, and Skunk (for obvious coloring reasons) in texts and seed-saving circles. Here on the farm, it has developed one more name:
